I had every intention of sharing my plans with you in January but between myself getting really sick and multiple snow days, our month totally got off! If you have seen my pacing guide (read more here) then you will see we are still working on a lot of the concepts I planned to cover in January during this month but that’s okay! This is the reality of my classroom. If you want to see what we are working on, keep reading!
Reading
We are starting the month with the Superbowl article that was on News 2 You. I love using News 2 You to bring current events into my classroom! We are also going to do some of the literacy pieces of my Occupations Adapted Thematic Unit, which ties into our social studies theme perfectly. We will finish the month with We Need Change from Unique Learning Systems.
Math
We are still working on addition and subtraction from last month. In addition to my addition and subtraction pac, I am using a lot of the supplemental materials I have from other sellers. See my math centers blog to see some of those activities! Once we finish the addition and subtraction unit, we will move into fractions. A fun snack activity will complete fractions at the end of this month!
Language Arts
I am obsessed with my new picture writing scenes! They are the perfect choice for some of my students. 6 different levels of differentiation means all of the students in my class can partake in writing. I also have some students using my graphic organizer journal. These students have moved past writing simple sentences and can start to build paragraphs.
Science and Social Studies
Science is a smaller focus this month. We will be finishing up our Phases of Matter pack. We have 2 units planned for Social Studies. Community Helpers will pair perfectly with the occupations pack mentioned above, and then we will move into Map Symbols.
The Extras
We are finally ready to roll out morning work for every student as well! I use a combination of products from Just a Primary Girl, You Aut-a-Know and School Bells N Whistles.
My class uses
I forgot to use my monthly lesson plan template in January and that is part of the reason why we got off track! I filled my plans out for February tonight and I’m ready to catch up on all content areas. If you think monthly lesson plans might work for you, you can grab the free template in this blog post!
