My class does a morning calendar every day. Read more about that routine here! That routine is filled with skills like days of the week, months of the year, weather and seasons. I wanted to include other skills like letters, numbers
This book is not scheduled in my day. This is what I like to call an emergency filler. This is perfect when Adaptive Pe gets cancelled, or my math lesson ends 10 minutes early, or we just need something calming to do. My students love the songs I have paired with each page. I have a YouTube playlist that I run, and before each song we work on a page. We might do this whole book or just do two pages from it, depending on the day. See below to see each page, the skills we work on and the song I play!
The first page is our Alphabet page. Each student gets a different letter to identify. We might say “what letter is this?” while pointing to a letter on a page. We also might say “Find____” and have the student point to that letter. We listen to this alphabet song!
The next page is the Number page. Each student gets a different number to identify. We might say “what number is this?” while pointing to a number on a page. We also might say “Find____” and have the student point to that number. We listen to this number song!
Colors is always a popular page. I can ask students to find a certain color or name a certain color. I can also ask them to show me their favorite color or identify the color of their shirt. We listen to this color song!
I don’t have as many shapes because my students are still working on basic shapes. Let me know in the comments if you would like to see 3D shapes added to this book! We listen to this shapes song!
Community helpers was one of our social studies units in the fall (see the pack I use here) but it is such an important skill that I wanted to imbed it into our meeting. We listen to this song!
Food groups is not en explicit unit I teach but an important skill. We work on 5 basic food groups: Bread/Grains, Dairy, Fruit, Vegetables and Meats. We listen to this song.
Body parts are another area I don’t explicitly teach but is important to work on. We pair the body parts page with this song.
We use the Behavior Basic’s program from Autism Adventures in our classroom. I love those lessons but sometimes its nice to have just a really quick refresher on basic appropriate manners for school. We review different positive behaviors and listen to this song!
Safety signs are so crucial! I love using this page similar to the alphabet and number pages. I will either ask students “what sign is this?” or I will say “Find ______” . This is a short and sweet safety signs song to listen to!
The last thing my class does is cover our favorite part of the day. We most often do our skills book at the end of the day on the days we don’t have Adaptive PE. Every student gets to identify their favorite part of the day, then we listen to the goodbye song.
This last page is a bonus page. My class does not use this page very often, but I wanted to include it for you all. It is a super simple visual to use for daily questions.
Thank you all so much for reading my blog and supporting my small business! I love giving you all
